Projet TENSXFibro
Bouger avec la fibromyalgie
Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition characterized by widespread pain and hypersensitivity to pain, primarily affecting women. Exercise is an integral part of the treatment plan because of its many benefits on the symptoms and consequences of fibromyalgia. Regular, appropriate exercise can improve flexibility, mobility, endurance, strength, and can reduce fibromyalgia pain.
However, in this population, pain represents a barrier to adopting a more active lifestyle. In fact, during the first weeks or months of a new training program, fibromyalgia-related pain is often exacerbated by exercise.
Our research project aims to evaluate the efficacy of peripheral nerve stimulation (TENS) to reduce pain during a resistance training session, supervised by a kinesiologist, in postmenopausal women with fibromyalgia. TENS represents a promising avenue to alleviate exercise-induced pain, which could facilitate the practice of physical exercise.
The project is supported by a donation/bequest to UdeS/Serge Marchand from Ms. Marie-Lise Renaud for research on fibromyalgia.
We are actively seeking participants for this study. If you are a woman aged 50 or older, post-menopausal and diagnosed with fibromyalgia, you may be eligible. For more information or to participate, please contact us.
