COVEXtension Project
Follow-up on the condition of individuals who participated in the COVEX project.
In about 10 to 20% of people affected, symptoms persist after the acute phase of infection for several weeks, which is called post-COVID-19 syndrome, the long form of COVID 19 or "long COVID". One of the major characteristics of post-COVID-19 syndrome is the presence of chronic fatigue for more than 3 months. Although the physiological mechanisms remain poorly understood, it seems that physical exercise facilitates recovery and reduces the long-term effects of the infection.
There is still no clearly established treatment for people with PCS. However, the scientific literature demonstrates benefits related to physical activity in this population. In general, the results show that different training modalities are beneficial for improving the physical capacity of participants. Despite these results, there is still no consensus on the training parameters to use with this population.
The objective of this project is to follow up on the COVEX project in order to enrich longer-term observations in people affected by PSC (recall of participants on average 18 months after the end of the intervention). Our study seeks to follow up on physical capacity, symptoms, fatigue, quality of life, cognitive status, perceived health status, immune markers and functional status of people with post-COVID-19 syndrome.
